Ballyholme yacht club and beach inthe distance

ballyholme beach in the distance. Many a day I spent down on that beach..Use to go digging worms for my dad to go fishing...we lived not too far away so Id head there as soon as the sun was out... we use to have a dog called Nero..he was mostly greyhound... and we couldnt keep him confined . He use to jump the hedge (about 5ft high) and we always found him on the beach playing with the kids... You called his name and he use to turn into a black and white bolt of lightening running the whole beach to get to you.

Bangor by the sea

the courthouse Bangor. Thankfully never been in it..

this is my labrador maddie...she was born on my birthday and in dog years is my age too.... ha the other , the springer spaniel is Megan age unknown. We adopted her from the dog warden. She had been found along the roadside. her teeth were wore away so they were unable to figure out what age she is.Shes old now and is deaf and going blind.Poor pet has had two strokes as well. Her wee head is now always to the side but she is on heart tablets which gives her a spurt of energy every now and then...so shes still puttering about. Unfortunally usually at 5am in the morning!!!

the enterance to the long hole..seacliff road

Tuesday 21 April 2009

This is along Seacliff road and the red building in the distance is where the dance hall Capronis was situated....It didnt sell alcohol but it use to be packed on a saturday nite... the wallflowers use to stand up against the walls and the guys walked around asking you to dance... I remember one night this guy asking about 3 girls to dance and when he came to me and asked I didnt want to hurt his feelings and said yes, .... then he asked me out...once again softy me said yes.... big mistake....he turned up late, took me to his 60yr old chums house where we watched jesus of nazarath with robert powell it was easter..... what a boring boring date... and boy was he a bad kisser!!ha ha needless to say left shortly and went home never to see him again...... well once about 20years later.... that was my first one afternoon stand!

this is the bottom of Main Street Bangor coming onto High Street, changed from my time.... Bangor in general has lots of changes... I left home at 18 and the changes from then are massive........................... because dad still lives there Ive seen most of the changes occurring....

Monday 20 April 2009

this use to be something like the fishing boats that used to moor in the Long Hole...this little boat is the only one there now......

This is the tennis courts at Ballyholme... many a memory I have of sitting on those swings watching the world pass by. Capronis dance hall was just along a bit but is now knocked down and made into luxury apartments....

Sunday 19 April 2009

this use to be the beach... you were able to walk from the bottom of High Street onto the beach and right along to Pickie Pool. its gone too..there's a kiddies amusement park with railway and swans to sail in for kiddies....not the same as the square dancing that use to occur there during the summer.

bangor

the last remant of the Sunken Gardens...the Mc Kee Clock...we all use to hang around the Sunken Gardens...there use to be sheltered seats ..many a snogging session was carried out there ha .....

Bangor

Many a day we sat on the wall on Queens Parade watching the world go by. The cinema is gone, Queens Court and the amusement arcade.... nearly all the old shops are closed or knocked down...the beach is gone and a fancy marina stands there now with all the flashy boats........sadly theres no where now for the kids to go to the beach unless round at Ballyholme... quite sad I think... I dont particularly like it now..then again I like things to stay old and unique..... we lose our history this way!

bangor memories

this is Bangor....where I was born,,, this is a picture of the long hole... its all changed from my childhood days.. it use to be full of little fishing boats..... like the Betsy . She was a boat my dad use to go out fishing on... many a nite my sister and I waited for the boats coming in to help my dad carry the fish he caught, home . I remember one night he had that many mackerel he put them into his wet coat and tied the sleeves together and made it into a kind of bag. Half way up Victoria Road the sleeves opened and the fish slid everywhere........it was so funny trying to catch the slippy fish !

this is a picture of my chums from when I lived in Bangor and went to Glenlola .We all knocked about together..had great fun...didnt realize what a great time we all had..they were the lazy days of summer 1976! bliss! The guys all went to Bangor grammar and were our chums or boyfriends.....those were the days......

this is another of my paintings.. actually know the place of this view.... slemish co antrim..

this is one of my paintings.... location unknown. Anyway its my attempt at it...

my blog....mmmmm?now what to put in it.....

Hello ...this is all a mistake ...I was only trying to leave a comment on my chums blog and Hey presto...here I am..blog of my own.........
now what to do with it now that I have one...mmm? let me see? bore everyone with day to day events.....nope! rant and rave on it? nope!.....write poetry....nope! haven't got one single solitary clue what to do on it.... sad or what!

I suppose I may tell who I am.....I'm a middle aged woman..well maybe more than middle aged depends what you define as middle aged.... I originally come from Bangor Northern Ireland I live over looking Lough Neagh with my husband Stephen and two dogs Maddie and Megan. Maddie is a Labrador born on my birthday,(sheer coincidence) and Meg is a rescue dog age unknown but definitely old..teeth are worn away..prior to me getting her...she has now gone deaf and slightly blind well maybe more than slightly.... and has had two strokes one recently which has left her with her head sort of inclined to the left..otherwise shes still gadding about.....especially at 5 am in the morning...! agh!

I'm a lady of leisure....ie (a lazy cow ha ) but I paint and draw as a hobby and do crafty things like card making and scrap booking...... sad ain't I?
Ive a sister who doesn't live too far from me a niece who's married with 2 lovely wee boys and a nephew who's grown tall and handsome....
My dad is still living in the family home in Bangor...hes 82 and health wise not too bad except for a bad leg as a result of a fall.
anyway think that's enough to start with...... live long and prosper!!
